The Covenant of Marriage

It took a Sozo session/class to understand how the spiritual realm works especially when it pertains to the marriage covenant presented and blessed in the church by an ordained minister of the gospel of Christ Jesus. I used to think marriage is marriage…not in God’s school of marriage.

The LORD had mercy on our foolishness. I have been privileged to do a traditional dowry (ruracio) ceremony, Attorney General/government and Christian/Church wedding and I can tell you there is a clear distinction between the three ceremonies. You might ask, what is the difference? Well, the difference is who are you covenanting with in the Holy matrimony? Who will be your shield, defender, protector and final say in your marriage? Who do you want to speak or have a say in your marriage? Who do you run to when things are thick between you and your partner?

The first marriage blessing class we attended, the covenant of marriage was heavily tackled. This class served as a foundation class. Unless the foundation is dealt with before marriage, you are guaranteed to see cracks in the initial years of your marriage. You see, if it’s a traditional marriage ceremony, do you run to your ancestors and the culture? If it’s AG / civil marriage, do you run to the government?

The day we decided to renew our vows, the presence of God was so thick. Besides, the tears that I shed, I knew God had our back. No matter what. From that day, the grace and favour for marriage increased, and everything went to another level. I recognized what that was and it is the promise of Genesis 1:28-31 in action.

“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you, it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”

All you need to do is go for premarital or marriage blessing classes, notify the state and church which takes 21 calendar days. Identify a godly born again couple as witnesses, set a date and involve the pastor where you fellowship. Choose God in marriage and he will bear and lift you up no matter the seasons of marriage you go through. With Him, all things are possible!
